Evaluation and assessment of two laboratories in Egypt

As part of a development plan a client wants to increase the analytical level of two laboratories in Egypt. One of the laboratories, located in the Nile Delta, is specialised in analysing water, soil, plant and nematode samples from local farmers. The laboratory is important for the area because they support the farmers in maintaining the crop yield of their farmland at a high level. The other smaller laboratory is located in Cairo and investigates the water quality from a sewage plant.

Looking for a needle in a haystack

A client wants to know which substances yield antibiological activity in some hay samples. The assignment fits within KAIN's service "What is the composition of my product or the product from my competitor". Therefore, KAIN decided to accept the assignment, but because of its complexity and the limited budget, on a "no cure, no pay" basis.

It soon turns out that the assignment is to difficult and can't be finalised within the available budget, because:  Read more »

Primary school excursion to laboratory

On 6 May 2014 a group of children from the primary school in Harfsen goes on excursion to KAIN's laboratory takes place. During the visit, the young students (age 6 to 7) are introduced to the basics of analytical chemistry. Off course, to keep the attention, the lecture is accompanied by some simple but dirty laboratory experiments. After 1.5 hours the pupils return, satisfied and slightly wiser, back to school.

The annex contains the given PowerPoint presentation "What does an analytical chemist do" (unfortunately in Dutch).
